Losing virginity.

If you have lost your virginity and have not had any man other than the one who took your virginity, it is still not too late to make it right. The Bible says that the man who takes an unengaged woman's virginity must declare her to be his wife and upon his public declaration, she shall indeed be his wife.

Exodus 22:16,17 And if a man entice a maid that is not betrothed, and lie with her, he shall surely endow her to be his wife. If her father utterly refuse to give her unto him, he shall pay money according to the dowry of virgins.

The father who "refuses" to give her unto him has no rights in the matter. It is true that by the power or persuasion that the father might be able to convince his daughter that she is not the man's wife but if the man endows (exchanges something of value for another thing of value) then she is indeed his wife. Notice that whether or not the father refuses to give his daughter to the man or not, an exchange is commanded. Just as in the exchange for damaged goods, the exchange for a deflowered virgin transfers those damaged goods to the man who deflowered her.

Exodus 21:34 The owner of the pit shall make [it] good, [and] give money unto the owner of them; and the dead [beast] shall be his.

Furthermore, the father may NOT refuse.

Leviticus 19:29 Do not prostitute thy daughter, to cause her to be a whore; lest the land fall to whoredom, and the land become full of wickedness.

The meaning of the word "prostitute" in the above sentence is not the same as we use it. In fact, this is the only instance in the entire Bible where the word prostitute is used. The meaning is "cause to be defiled." How does a woman become defiled? She becomes defiled when she goes with a man other than the first man she has been with. When a father refuses to give his daughter to the man who took her virginity, he is "causing her to commit adultery" just like the man who divorces his wife without cause because in such cases it is clear that the father expects her to go with another man even though she has already become the wife of the man who endowed her to be his wife. A father simply has no right after his unengaged daughter has laid with a man to refuse to allow her to go with the man. If the father wanted to make sure that his daughter married a man he approved of then he could simply have betrothed her to another before she had time to give herself to someone not of his liking. A father cannot claim that he has the right to countermand a daughter's marriage vows for regardless of what she vowed, it was not the vow that caused her to become the man's wife, it was the laying with the man and the man's subsequent endowing her to be his wife that made her his wife. In America, where the father pays all the wedding expenses, there is no bride's price, and the simple declaration to the father of the bride by the man who took her virginity, makes the former virgin his wife.

This brings up a significant aspect of law that most Christians do not understand. Paul was speaking of the laws of Rome when he wrote to the Hebrews:

"Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that [is] unprofitable for you." Hebrews 13:17

The most talked about laws in Rome during Paul's time were those concerning marriage for Rome had recently introduced many godly laws. Paul would not have given future authority to some unknown government that might have had laws such as Egypt. The Roman empire, at the time Paul wrote his Epistle to the Hebrews, had laws concerning marriage that were far more righteous than ours.

"Against fathers that refused their consent with the object of preventing their children marrying, the lex Julia et Papia Poppaea (A.D. 9) first provided a remedy. The Proconsuls and Presidents of Provinces were empowered to compel the father to consent and make a settlement. Special laws were enacted to compel heretic, Jewish, or Samaritan fathers to endow their orthodox children, and give them in marriage to the orthodox. The father was treated as sinning against the lex Julia, not merely by an active refusal of his consent, but by neglecting to provide suitable spouses for his children."

The above Roman law handles it precisely the way the Law Observant Jews would have handled it, by compulsion in accordance with Leviticus 19:29. The Roman laws at the time that Paul wrote his Epistle to the Hebrews was the only "law of the land" that Paul ever commanded Christians to follow. Do not be confused. Paul never commanded every Christian in every country to follow the laws of those countries! Paul knew the laws of Rome and those were the laws of which he was speaking.

Since the parents and the churches of the "Christian" world have forsaken God's law as well as the "law of the land" [above cited] concerning a woman's losing her virginity, the young women of today are only partly responsible for becoming harlots. The parents and churches bare most of the GUILT.

  • If a woman knew that she would have to marry the first man she had sex with then she'd be much more likely to save herself for the right man.

  • If a man knew that he would have to marry any virgin that he was caught having sex with then he would be much more likely to leave virgins alone.

  • If parents respected God's laws then they would lobby their governments to pass laws in accordance with them. That would result in a more orderly and safe community for their families.

But The Fact Is: Today's "Christians" HATE God's laws!

If a Christian parent does not even want to enforce God's laws concerning virginity then how can anyone be so stupid as to believe that they respect any of God's laws? How can anyone be so stupid as to believe that someone who does not accept God's laws on marriage is a Bible Believing Christian? I just refuse to believe it! If your precious daughter means so little to you then how can I believe that an unseen God means anything to you? You're not fooling me! You're just not a Bible Believing Christian if you refuse to accept God's laws on marriage and if you're not a Bible Believing Christian then what are you? You're an unbeliever and you're going to hell.

For the young women who've lost their virginity due to living in a society where virginity is of less value than experience, please, sin no further. If you have not laid with anyone besides that first man then do the right thing, be his wife. If you've already defiled yourself with another man then sin no more. Make sure the next man you take has already declared you to be his wife.

The Reverend Martin Madan once said:

"When you meet with a sinner, whose soul is pierced, humbled, and touched to the quick with a pungent sense of sin, set before her the love and tenderness, the blood and righteousness of the compassionate and almighty Jesus. Nothing but the balm of Gilead, and the soothing ointment of the gospel, belong to such a person."*

If you are not a virgin and you HAVE repented then read the following story and may you be uplifted.

The Reverend Martin Madan also said:

"If you have to do with a stupid, hardened, unawakened sinner, set the terrors of the law before her, without mercy: endeavour by corrosives, to eat down the proud flesh of her heart."*

If you are not a virgin and you have not repented of the harlotry that you have committed and if you persist in believing that you have done no wrong then read the story of Cherry the Harlot. I dare you.

*Quotes of Reverend Madan's conversation from July 18 1769 are taken from: The Works of Augustus M. Toplady By Augustus Toplady volume IV Published posthumously 1794 [The pronoun "him" which is understood as inclusive of him and her has been replaced by "her" to match this context. The words 'soothing ointment' were substituted for Madan's 'lenitives' since few readers would know the meaning of lenitive.]
